Why the Increase in MBBS Seats Matters

Increasing the total MBBS seats in Nepal will help produce more homegrown medical professionals, ensuring better access to healthcare services across the country. Education experts believe this decision will:

  • Reduce the number of students going abroad for MBBS.
  • Retain talent and save foreign currency.
  • Strengthen Nepal’s healthcare system by increasing the supply of trained doctors.

The Ministry of Education has stated that this is part of a long-term plan to align the country’s healthcare workforce with the growing needs of its population.
